The ingredients needed to cook Taisen's 5 bean chili:
- Get cans of light or dark red kidney beans
- Prepare butter beans
- Get capellini beans
- Take mild chili beans
- Get northern beans
- Take cans of tomato sauce
- Prepare large onion, diced
- Take diced tomatoes or leave this out
- Use packets of taco seasoning
- Provide to 8 tablespoons of chili powder ( you can add more or less )
- You need garlic powder ( you can add more or less or even use 2 or 3 cloves of garlic , minced or diced fine )
- Use onion powder ( I like extra onion flavor, but you can omit this )
- Provide red pepper flakes , red pepper and / or black pepper ( optional )
- Provide block ( 8 ounce ) cheese . we use cheddar . shredded ( optional )
- Take small purple / red onion ( optional )
Instructions to make Taisen's 5 bean chili:
- Open all cans of beans. Drain juices. Add to crock pot
- Add in onion
- Add seasonings. Chili powder, onion powder, taco seasoning. Mix well. Red and black pepper if using. (as you can see, I add a lot of spice because my family loves chili to be extra spicy) stir well
- Add in the tomatoes and tomato sauce. Stir. Set crock pot on high for 4 to 6 hours. Stir every hour if your crock pot is like mine. Mine gets over hot so a lot of times I use medium heat longer.
- Before serving, shred the block cheese and dice onion as a topping. If making cornbread do this now or use butter bread.
- Serve with butter bread, cornbread or salad. Enjoy
