Until fairly recently any individual who expressed concern about the wreckage of the environment raised skeptical eyebrows. That’s a thing of the past now, with everyone being aware of the problems besetting the planet and also the shared responsibility we have for turning things around. Unless everyone begins to start living more eco-friendly we won’t be able to fix the problems of the environment. These kinds of modifications need to start happening, and each individual family needs to become more environmentally friendly. The kitchen area is a good place to begin saving energy by going more green.
Even though it may not taste as good, preparing food in the microwave rather than in the oven will save you a packet of money. Perhaps the realization that an oven uses 75% more energy will motivate you to use the microwave more. Compared with your stove, you can make boiled water or steamed vegetables faster, and use quite a bit less energy, by using countertop appliances. Many people mistakenly believe that doing the dishes by hand uses a reduced amount of energy than a dishwasher. Especially if you ensure that the dishwasher is full prior to starting a cycle. Don’t dry the dishes by using heat, utilize the cool dry or air dry options to increase the money you save.
As you can see, there are lots of little things that you can do to save energy, and also save money, in the kitchen alone. Environmentally friendly living just isn’t that hard. Largely, all it will take is a little bit of common sense.

Steps to make Roasted Garlic:
- Remove outer skin layers

- Drizzle a bit of olive oil over the top and add a pinch of kosher or sea salt.
- Pull up the sides of the tinfoil and pinch/twist the top together.
- Roast on the middle rack (toaster ovens are awesome for this) at 400⁰F for around 40-60 min, depending on size. Cloves should look golden brown.
- Allow to cool so you don't burn your fingers on the cloves. If you've cut the very tips of the cloves, you should be able to squeeze the garlic out fairly easily. If not, you should probably wait for it to cool a little more before handling it.
